Donor Milk Drop-Off Site
Mother’s Milk Bank Collection
The Neonatal ICU at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands has collaborated with the Mother’s Milk Bank of Austin (Houston location) for several years in order to secure donor breast milk for our tiniest, most vulnerable patients. We are a donor milk collection site for the Milk Bank, with a drop off in our Lactation Center during regular store hours (Monday through Saturday). The Milk Bank drop off depot site allows for lactating women who produce more breast milk than their child/children need to donate it back to premature babies in Texas.
How to get set up as a donor? Following a screening process by the Mother’s Milk Bank of Austin, the lactating mom simply drops off her milk at our Lactation Center. There, we place the donated breast milk in the freezer and store it for a short time before it is officially collected by the Milk Bank. Under the Milk Bank’s care, the milk is pasteurized and processed to meet the specific needs of fragile and sick premature infants.
