Advanced practice provider Carolyn Cox is a board-certified physician assistant who also holds certificates in basic cardiac life support and advanced cardiac life support. She is experienced in cardiology, and her primary clinical interests include heart failure, patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) and heart transplants, structural heart disease and general cardiology.

She earned an undergraduate degree in biology at Texas A&M University and her master’s in physician assistant studies at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. She has been in practice since 2011.

Carolyn’s decision to enter the health care field stemmed from a desire to help others in their time of need. Close collaboration between the physician and physician assistant characterizes her patient-centered approach to care. She wants patients to feel that she genuinely cares for them, is a good listener and answers their questions clearly and thoroughly.

Her greatest professional satisfaction comes from patient success stories and seeing them do well in post-hospitalization follow-up. She also loves educating patients on their illnesses and explaining the “why” of a treatment plan.

She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Texas Academy of Physician Assistants.

Away from her practice, Carolyn loves spending time with her family, which includes a newly adopted baby daughter, and friends. She enjoys rooting for the Astros and trying out new restaurants in town. When vacation time comes, she heads for the beach or the mountains.
