  • Please bring a valid Identification and Insurance Card

For more information about childbirth pre-registration, reach out to the Memorial Hermann hospital campus you selected to have your delivery:

Discuss your birth plan

It is recommended that you discuss your birth plan with your physician prior to your arrival to the hospital for delivery.

Select a pediatrician

It is highly recommended to select your baby’s pediatrician prior to delivery. Children’s Memorial Hermann has affiliated pediatrician practices across the Greater Houston Area.

For assistance finding a pediatrician, visit Memorial Hermann Find a Doctor or call (713) 222-CARE. Please call the office of the pediatrician you select to verify that he or she is accepting new patients.

Packing for the hospital

In the third trimester of your pregnancy, it is helpful to begin making a list and gathering the items you will need to take with you to the hospital. Below is a list of suggested items you may want to pack and bring with you for your hospital stay. Please do not bring jewelry, excessive cash, credit cards or other valuables to the hospital.

For You:

  • Identification: Both patient and partner or support person must bring government-issued photo identification
  • Pre-registration paperwork and your insurance card
  • A list of prescription medications you are currently taking and their dosage
  • Cell phone and extended length cord charger is recommended
  • Lip balm for use during labor
  • Toiletries and personal items that make you feel at home, such as: hair brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, eye glasses, contact lens supplies, deodorant, face wash, body wash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, head bands or pony tail holders, etc.
  • Items that help you relax or feel more comfortable – your favorite music, your special pillow, a body pillow, etc.
  • Comfortable pajamas or loungewear
  • Robe, slippers and socks
  • Nursing bras and/or comfortable bras
  • Comfortable clothes and shoes to wear home
  • Limited amount of money for parking, meals and snacks
  • Baby book for your newborn’s footprints
  • Video camera, camera, iPad or similar tablet, and chargers – Many patients want to take photos with their newborns after the delivery. We politely request that you follow our policy of respecting each mother’s privacy and not allowing photo or video recordings of the actual delivery. Please also check with your obstetrician regarding his or her policy regarding photography and video.

For Your Partner or Support Person:

  • A change of clothes
  • Nutritious snacks and beverages
  • Toiletries and personal items needed
  • Cell phone, charger, and any chargers needed for personal electronics

For Your Baby:

  • A going home outfit – a sleeper with legs makes it easier to buckle an infant into their car seat
  • A lightweight baby blanket
  • An approved infant rear-facing car seat – Please review the owners’ manuals for your infant car seat and your vehicle to ensure your infant car seat is properly installed.
